Over the weekend, the Miss Universe Guyana Organization hosted a Send Off Party for Rafieya Husain; Guyana’s representative to the 66th Miss Universe Pageant to be held at the Axis Theater, Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas on November 26, 2017.
In true Guyanese fashion, there was great food, drinks and of course music. Thanks to a great DJ playing all the old and new hits, everyone was seen having a great time on the dance floor. We commend the host of the evening, franchise holder Jyoti Hardat, Tajuni Media and the Miss Universe Guyana Organization for organizing a memorable event which were held at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center in Queens, New York.
Well wishes, family and friends gathered to wish the beauty ambassador the best as she sets out to compete with over 80 beauties around the world. During the event, Rafieya related that she is both eager and anxious as she tries to make history in the Miss Universe Pageant since Guyana has never made it into the semi-finals. It is interesting to note that Rafieya broke the dry spell for her country at the 2014 Miss World Pageant. The last Guyanese beauty to enter the semi-finals was Nalini Moonsar in 1971.
In her address to the intimate gathering, Ms. Husain talked about her preparation and journey thus far which includes catwalk and interview sessions with Lou Sierra; the best in the pageant industry and the official runway coach for the Miss Universe and Miss USA Pageants. She took physical and mental preparations seriously to make sure that she will make Guyana proud. “It was not easy, but I am really determined to bring home Guyana’s first ever Miss Universe crown”, Ms. Hussain stated with confidence. Rafieya also took a moment to thank the Guyanese people for all their love and support. She also thanked her sponsors for their generosity throughout her journey; especially her National Costume designers and Evening Gowns sponsor Ashley Lauren. Rafieya Husain is expected to leave for the Miss Universe 2017 Competition on November 11th.
